Alright, granted, it's not like drinking in the park was invented within the last twelve months. But it does seem that 2011 was the year all our friends discovered the joys of getting drunk in Trinity Bellwoods. A lot of that probably has to do with the music series Bobby Kimberly (of Young Lions Music Club fame) and the Live In Bellwoods peeps put on during North by Northeast. Drinking tall boys beneath the shade of the trees on Queen West while watching acoustic sets from some of our favourite acts — like The Balconies, Whale Tooth and Allie Hughes — was one of our fondest memories of the festival. And so, we just kept reliving it all summer long, bringing beer to the park after work along with the millions of other alcoholic hipsters who flood the place — and the awesome little old Asian ladies who come by to collect your empty cans. Getting trashed in Bellwoods may be the single biggest reason we can't wait for warm weather to return in 2012.
Just don't anyone tell the mayor.

Getting trashed in Bellwoods was chosen by Adam Bunch, the Editor-in-Chief of the Little Red Umbrella and the creator of the Toronto Dreams Project and was practiced by the entire staff. You can read his posts here, follow him on Twitter here, or email him at adam@littleredumbrella.com.
