On September 29, photographer Yuli Scheidt and I travelled to the depths of Mississauga to check out the renowned Canadian Baking and Sweets Show. The world of cupcakes, cookies, chocolates, jellies and everything sweet took over the International Centre for three whole days attracting the who’s who of the baking universe. This included: Duff Goldman from Food Network’s Ace of Cakes, Anna Olson from Food Network Canada’s Bake With Anna Olson, Katherine and Sophie from TLC’s DC Cupcakes and Food Network Canada’s sweetest new stars, the SugarStars.
We had the chance to walk the aisles and sample some delicious wares from Purdy’s head chocolate chef as well as to check out some of North America’s finest cake artists including my personal favourite La Case Dolce interpretation of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. There were also many competitions including Porter’s cake competition and a Christmas cake competition.
All in all, this was a baker's fantasy and delight. You could not only learn how to bake here and purchase some of your favourite goodies here, but you could meet your idols. What more could you want? The Canadian Baking and Sweets Show takes place each year in September. To check out more photos, look on Twitter for the hashtag #CBSS. Or you can visit their website here.
