THURSDAY — CMW always ends up being the place where we find our summer musical love. This usually means about 800 tweets, 40 Facebook posts and whatever else can be considered light to mild stalking. This year Paper Bag Palace fits the bill quite nicely. They're three pretty girls from St. Catharines with voices as angelic as their faces and talents that would make Courtney Love write bitchy things about them and possibly threaten their lives.
Packed in the Global Village Backpackers at King and Spadina, despite the beer deal being Canadian, the band hushed the tight crowd with soft vocals, harmonizing violin and a commanding presence of Rasputina meets Forest City Lovers.
Having paid the extra dollar to drink something decent, the band had me insightful. Not only was I standing in a place where The Rolling Stones (who I love dearly) once hung out, but I was also witnessing the birth of a brand new musical love. Maybe it's my inner lez talking but I really see an amazing future for Paper Bag Palace.
