FRIDAY — The Indies are always one of the highest profile events
during Canadian Music Week. This year was the 13th annual edition. In
between award presentations to various
local and national talent, the evening featured a great line-up of
"indie"
bands including Metric, Yukon Blonde, Diamond Rings, Matt Mays, Cadence Weapon and Cold
Specks. It made Kool Haus one of the places to be on the festival's Friday night.
One of the highlights was Montreal’s Canailles. They mix bluegrass, zydeco, cajun, blues, ragtime, country and garage rock — all while singing Quebec joual. Their unique sound earned them SiriusXM’s Emerging Artist of the Year in the French category and after such a great performance, they deserve it. The eight-member band got everyone dancing, including yours truly in the media pit.
You can find our photos of the other bands who performed here. And a list of all the Indie Award nominees and winners here.
