There are more than 1000 bands playing in Toronto this week. Which means that on average a new band will be taking the stage something like every eight minutes. So clearly, given the laws of space and time, you really can't afford to give a fuck about most of them. Which is where our Canadian Music Week preview comes in. Below, you'll find all our favourite acts playing this year's festival, along with links to MP3s, videos, interviews and more. And if that's not enough for you, you can also listen to the CMW preview edition of our Songs You Can Dance Around Your Apartment To podcast right on over here.
We're not kidding around, people. Every single one of these bands rules and has a kickass live show. You can't go wrong.
Once the festival starts, you'll find all our coverage here. You can follow us on Twitter (@LittleRedU) and like us on Facebook too.
The full schedule for the festival is here. Individual tickets for most of the shows are on sale here. And you can buy a wristband ($60 for the whole week) here.
THURSDAY
You might know The Balconies from the fact that we never shut up about them. We go see them every chance we get. And this year, they've landed on a bill back-to-back with the excellent Saskatchewan indie rockers Rah Rah. Which means we'll be at Lee's for at least part of the night. Meanwhile, you might know shy kids and ATTAGIRL because they played our Pussy Riot benefit show last year. And they're back together kicking off the evening with sets at the Global Village Packbackers hostel at King & Spadina.
Later in the night, we'll be racing to catch Montreal's Honheehonhee at Rancho (the favourite Montreal band of just about everyone we know in a Toronto band) and the drunken powerpop awesomeness of Dangerband at the Dollar.
Finally, you might know Stars from them being super-famous. They're playing with Said The Whale — the second of two shows: you can also catch them on Wednesday night with Yukon Blonde.

Friday night promises to be the most exhausting night of the week. Our favourite bands are spread out all over the city. Shout-along indie rockers Boys Who Say No (pictured) are on the same bill as the surf-y girl group garage rock of The BB Guns, but they're playing four hours apart. So in between those sets at the Dollar, we'll be rushing around like drunken headless chickens clutching our SLRs, trying to catch as many of the rest of these folks as we can.

SATURDAY
We saw Mozart's Sister at NXNE last summer, playing in a backyard near Parkdale. She. Was. Amazing. So we'll be at the Comfort Zone at the end of Saturday night, to see how that summer backyard awesomeness translates in a dark, skeezy, drug-riddled, afterhours basement. Earlier on in the night at the Velvet, ATTAGIRL are playing back-to-back with the fantastic Boats!, followed by the on-our-Polaris-ballot-last-year garage punk of Ketamines. While over at the 'Shoe, Brendan Canning's Cookie Duster share a bill with Shout Out Out Out Out. And that's where we'll head at the very very end of the night if we're still standing — to catch the 2:30am set by house-party-friendly rockers The Dirty Nil.
