CMW 2014: Pkew Pkew Pkew (gunshots) @ The Silver Dollar

SATURDAY — It's probably a pretty good sign that you've seen a pretty good show when it ends with one of the vocalists on the other side of the room, singing on top of the bar. And that's exactly how things ended when Pkew Pkew Pkew (gunshots) brought their punk rock to the Dollar on Canadian Music Week's sweaty Saturday night.

Of course, that's part of the genius of having a free-roaming vocalist like Pkew Pkew Pkew do in Brodie Bocelli. He spent the first forty minutes climbing on top of the speakers, ranging through the crowd, having the audience sing into the microphone — all while the rest of the band pounded and roared through the songs off their new record, Glory Days. And those just happen to be some of the most memorable songs in the city at the moment, with the shout-along choruses of "Stop Calling Us Chief", "Asshole Pandemic" and the title-track leading the way. (An album, by the way, which you can download right now for whatever price you like.)

The result was one of the craziest and most energetic sets we saw at this year's festival. Which, frankly, is exactly what we've come to expect from one of the best punk bands in Toronto.
