Meet The Band: Mad Ones

"Like a chainsaw cutting up a garbage can" — that's how Mad Ones guitarist Andrew DeVillers says he would describe the band's music to someone who hasn't heard them before. And that description makes perfect sense for the Toronto two-piece, who list themselves on Facebook as garage/grunge/punk. One of the growing number of roaringly electric bands inspiring drunken mosh pits across the city, they'll be taking the stage at the Bovine Sex Club on the opening night of this year's North By Northeast festival. 1. Say, for some strange reason, all the music in the world is going to be destroyed, but you can save all the songs from one decade. Which decade's records would you save?

I would create a new decade that melds the last half of the 80s and the last half of the 90s into the shittiest decade for music possible just to ruin it for everyone.


2. If you could play one venue you've never played before, what would it be?

Red Rocks


3. If you were going to be a roadie for one band, who would it be?

Preferrably someone with very little gear and a lot of money, like that ukulele kid on netflix. But I actually have roadied and I am horrible at it.


4. What’s the craziest live show you've ever played?

There is a blended memory of creative uses of garbage, onstage lactation, cops & macing, face bitings, shoddy electrical work, fire code violations (featuring actual firemen), a person already on crutches falling down a storey, batman pushing a van out of the mud, also being chased / whipped by a manic topless women is not as fun as it might sound, however there is not one particular show that sticks out.


5. What was the first record you ever bought? When was the last time you listened to it?

C+C Music Factory, i never got through it. I just remember feeling ripped off.
